Goodbye 2008. Inspiration for 2009.

It's time for 2009, it's time to make the most of your dreams and leave behind all doubts that you can't make it. Too many artists, business men, actors, and all-around dreamers fall by the wayside simply because they do not try hard enough. Strive for the best and once you get there, go even further, because not even your wildest dreams will show you what it's like to be on top of the world.

It's time to leave behind all of your detractors. 2009 is the year of self, focus on yourself and the friends, accolades, and good times will be right around the corner, please do not let yourself fail, I would love you to succeed right along with me.

That being said I want to share a quote with you from one of the few men that I actually look up to.

"I was always out to get everything that was owed to me, not a dime more. I would like for everyone else to go and get theirs too, that's why I do not want a dime over what's mine, but obviously the world owes us alot."
-Sean Carter

I put Sean Carter because I look up to him as a business man, he just happens to be a great rapper as well.

Live your lifetime don't just live the days.

Nicole Buffett

Not to be confused with Jimmy, Nicole Buffett is the grand-daughter of the most intelligent financial mind of all time, Warren Buffett. Warren Buffett is the world's richest man at a whopping $65 Billion dollar estimated value. A value that compounds daily. You would think that money liek that would trickle down quickly to Nicole, but you should think again. Nicole Buffett is the adopted grand-daughter of the billionaire, and was cut off two years ago after appearing in a documentary alongside Johnson and Johnson heir, Jamie Johnson, talking about the seperation between the poor and the rich of the nation.

Because of her brass and willingness to speak on the usually disconcerned family's fortune and lifestyle, Mr. Buffett sent Nicole a letter which read,

"People will react to you based on that 'fact' rather than who you are or what you have accomplished." He punctuated the letter by declaring, "I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin." Nicole was devastated. "He signed the letter 'Warren,'" she says. "I have a card from him just a year earlier that's signed 'Grandpa.'" (Marie Clarie magazine)

Those are powerful words for a self-proclaimed philanthropist, who has left his grand-daughter to fend for herself on 40,000 a year and no health insurance, which is better standards than most people, but how many of those people are indeed a Buffett?

"Racism still alive, they just be concealin' it"

Gene Chizik was recently announced as the Auburn head coach this past week. Mr. Chizik was 5-19 in two years at Iowa State and was clear choice for the position at Auburn University, or so thought the Board of Trustees.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Coach Chizik

Mr. Chizik was brought on to replace Coach Tommy Tuberville, who was a Auburn football icon, and resigned end of the season. The Auburn staff then went on a ten-day search for a new head coach which many felt would be Buffalo University's Turner Gill.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Coach Turner Gill

I was watching ESPN Outside the Lines and I saw ESPN.com football writer Mark Schlabach claim that he spoke with two other SEC football coaches and the consensus was that Turner Gill was passed over, not only because he is black, but because he is married to a white woman.

Charles Barkley weighed in saying that this is the second time in a row that his alumnus has chosen a less than proven white coach over a black candidate. In 2004, the school chose unheard of Jeff Lebo to coach the basketball team. Mr. Lebo was the only candidate among four who hadn't been to the NCAA Tournament. The other three candidates? Black head coaches, Mike Davis, Jeff Capel, and Mike Anderson. The three black candidates were chosen by then committee member, Mr. Charles Barkley, but he says he was removed from the committee because he only wanted to participate if the school was ready to choose a black head coach.

Clearly Auburn is looking towards a new future of all-white athletes, how can they expect any black athletes to go to their school now? Living in Alabama for a few months I have already seen how racist the area is, and this just reaffirms my suspicions. Times are changing, but some people don't wan to get on board, I guess you can't save everyone's soul.

Kanye's Klearly KooKoo

Kanye West is building a cult. He has a following of people who he is leading to victory or destruction. The world has not seen someone so influential towards people's lives since Jim Jones (not the Harlem rapper, get your history up). But enjoy this video of Kanye letting some fan know how he feels about them, it's pretty funny.

Semi-Talented Athletes.

When I was younger I dreamed of being a star athlete and winning the super bowl for my team. I wanted the fame, fortune, and confidence that comes with being the best. But having gained some life experience, I've realized that even better than being the star athlete is being the average athlete. No one blames you for the loss, but you can always be the hero. You get paid six-figure salaries, to do less work than the star athletes do. Bench players in baseball, especially for the yankees, make well over one million dollars a year before taxes. I could buy alot of what I wanted with intuition and budgeting, and not have to exert myself like a fool. Kudos to the 8th man on the basketball team, the 3rd reliever in the bullpen, and the 3rd string QB, you've done one better than inventing the new post-it note. You've beaten the system entirely.

Black Renaissance

There's another Renaissance happening now, and there are a few leaders who I respect enough to mention and in some cases introduce.

1. Sean "Jay-Z" Carter
Born December 4th, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY. Sean Carter was born with little chance to succeed, but everyone who knows rap (and even some people who don't) are familiar with this story. The story that I prefer is the one of the past seven years, where Mr. Carter left behind his Jay-Z moniker, for the most part, to pursue the business world and eventually take over. Over the past seven years Mr. Carter has provided inspiration for many, by living the perfect american dream. With an estimated worth just above $540 million and ventures in record labels, clothing, liquors, hotels, and even an NBA Team. The status that Jay-Z has reached is only but a dream to the better part of the population, but he is proof that when you work hard and are steadfast in you goals that you will be everything you dream to be.

Friends, how many of us have them?

I dont think these two are best friends, so I feel embarrassed for the guy, but I am even more embarrassed for the guy doing the gum offering. You can't be that rude to a coworker! Sure he will be appreciative, but later on you know he's going to feel some sort of awkwardness and insecurity towards you. aha, no one ones to be either guy in this situation, but if it has to be, please people....make that person a close friend.

What Are They Thinking?!

Im not even going to get too mad about this because it wont change much, but a teen model was recently referenced as obese. Want to know the size of the young female? Four. Yes, size four. Not fourteen, not twenty-four, four. Obese. The word four isnt even obese, look at it. So honest and slim, four letters for the four. Some people are just losing their minds. If size four is obese then maybe they should tie strings to Barbies and walk them down the aisles.

Everyone Has to Be a Twin to Win.

I have seen more and more people with multiple personality disorder in the limelight lately.

Let's clear this up once and for all. Hannah Montana and Miley Ray Cyrus, are the same individual. I am not sure how, but she has tricked a nation into believing that she is in fact two different people and is even offering a best of both worlds tour...if they pay her two checks I'm making an alias.

Cassidy even released an album called "Split Personality" from Cassidy the Problem, to Cassidy the Hustler, to B.A.R.S. (Barry Adrian Reese's Story)he too has capitalized off being his only competition, by opening his last two albums by freestyling his alter-egos.

Last summer, everyones favorite rapper released an album T.I. vs. T.I.P. proclaiming that TI is the business side and TIP is the street hustler....I guess only TIP is doing time.

Last but not least I have to pay homage to the king of personality disorders...No one has done it better or funnier, Martin Lawrence.

Flava Flav was born William Drayton, Jr. on March 16th, 1959. In the 90's Flava Flav was the hypeman for the rap super group Public Enemy. After the group's retiring, Flava Flav disappeared from the public eye, only to resurface on a VH1 reality TV show "the Surreal Life" where Flava Flav along with other cast members live in a home and perform B-list celebrity duties. Flav found love in housemate Bridget Neilsen, and the two then embarked on their own t.v. show "Strange Love" where the two found out that although great friends, they are not meant for each other.
Finally Flav landed where he is today on "Flavor of Love" is fought over by numerous women, and in the end he chooses his "true love". Mr. Drayton, Jr. has gained notoriety andpublic infamy, just by being a loud and verbasive man, willing to sacrifice his dignity. Hats off to you Mr. Drayton, Jr.

Raphael Saadiq

I was surfing the web and I found out that my favorite artist Raphael Saadiq is putting together a new album entitled "The Way I See It". His last album "Instant Vintage" received five-grammy nominations and he has worked from people such as Stevie Wonder to Norah Jones. He is truly a rare musical talent from his days in Tony! Tonì! Tonè! to Lucy Pearl to even independent work. I am anticipating this album and luckily for me three of my favorite artists are coming out with new material in my birth month (T.I. and NeYo being the other two).

"The Way I See It" is in stores and online September 16th, 2008. Go out and buy it!

By now you have all heard about the beheading on the bus in Canada. Well recent reports have shown that a police officer claims to have seen the suspect hackign off parts of the victim's body and eating them....let that sit on your soul for a minute. Not only did this demon behead a sleeping bus passenger, but he also ate parts of him. Dracula is back and he is pissed the fuck off.

Juelz For Sale

Dipset/Skullgang rapper Juelz Santana is not worth much I think. But apparently Def Jam and Cam'ron see different. Mr. Santana's contract was sold to Def Jam for $2 million dollars. Rock The Bells

Get ready to either jump in glee or roll your eyes. Dustin Diamond, more commonly known as Screech from Saved By the Bell, is writing a tell-all book entitled "Behind The Bell". The book promises to talk about sex between cast members, hardcore partying and drug use. I hope none of you are shocked by this, we have been shown time and time again how desperate Dustin Diamond is. From celebrity fit club twice, to being on saved by the bell as a high-pitched kid for THIRTEEN years, to an ill-received sex tape, he clearly is strapped for cash. Well, love him or hate him, kudos to Screech Diamond for making the most of his fifteen minutes. Update again when the book comes out.

Rappers and Their Similies.

I was sitting in my new room last week reading an old magazine. On the cover Lil Wayne is wearing a metal muzzle and a straight jacket. And the magazine and Lil Wayne are suggesting he is crazy. I have long since thought Lil Wayne had to be a little skewed i n the brain, at the very least, but listen to what finally convinced the world. In the interview Lil Wayne compared himself to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After years of comparing himself to God and other higher beings. Lil Wayne compares himself to a great human being and all of a sudden he is crazy. Dr. King did a lot of good for the world and I am not sure I agree with the comparison, but what about that comparison is completely unbelievable, whereas the God references are accepted. Where are America's ideals if that is the main cause of concern, a reference to another person.

T.O. a Hero

At the ESPY Awards last night, the main attraction certainly were the the superstar athletes and the movie stars. But the best story of the night was after the show. ESPN columnist Sam Alipour was hit by a limo when hailing a cab after the show. When he was hit, guess who was the first to come to his aid? You guessed it, evil, media villain, Terrell Owens. Sam Alipor wrote about his experience in his ESPN column, saying that Terrell stayed with him the entire time he was being treated and only left once the paramedics had cleared Mr. Alipour.

The next Jay-Z album will be produced entirely by Timbaland, and they are both guaranteeing a classic. Timbaland was quoted as saying "He wants me to do the whole thing this time around, I'mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It'll be a monster! I always say this: You get a first single from me, I'mma get you up to gold. And it's hard to get you up to gold in this day and age." Barack Obama sparks an assault case.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

A 25 year old New York City graduate was assaulted by four teenage girls for wearing the above shirt (which cost $69), made by Israeli-born designer, Doron Braunshtein. She says that the girls surrounded her and started toy yell at her, and even pulle dout her earphones and spit in her face. The deisgner claims that he neither responsible for the lewd acts, nor is he concerned with Obama's race but rather is designing shirts that represent the views of ordinary WASPs. He was quoted as saying "For a lot of people, when they see Obama, they see a slave. People think America is not ready for a black president." He continued to say that Obama "reminds [him] of Adolf Hitler" and does not like him because he is Muslim, which is a rumor that has followed Senator Obama for the entire campaign. It looks like New York City is just a little bitter of the loss suffered by Senator Clinton. But at least they're keeping it tasteful, thanks New Yorker.

The Dark Knight

The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" is finally here today. The funny debate over the movie was whether the movie was getting undue publicity just because Heath Ledger has died. I thought it had because honestly, batman is shown three times in the preview...but look at this video I ran across at Collegehumor.com

Wow lol. Apparently the Dark Knight is actually supposed to be titled "Joker is the Best Villain We Could Create and We Are Going to Prove It". The Joker is the main attraction in each of the films, even though I must admit that Heath Ledger absolutely destroys his role in the new one, I cannot wait to see how he handles the role.

Classic Hits

Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff- Summertime

Chasing Laura

I was on facebook and reading a note of my friend Larry, and he brought up an interesting point I wanted to expand on.

In the popular show Family Matters, Steve Urkel chased Laura Winslow from Day 1 until the end. The nerd Urkel was never good enough for Laura, but in season 4 he found love in the form of faithful girlfriend Myra Monkhouse (i wikipedia'd the name Im not THAT big a geek LOL). Myra loved Steve as is, top to bottom, and like most foolish human beings, he took her caring for granted and never truly valued her. He even went as far as to create a machine to turn him into the suave and debonair Stefan. Then and only then did Laura appreciate Steve, when he was no longer himself, but a person who she wanted him to be. This brings up two interesting points. The first is that Steve was so stricken with tunnel-vision that he ignored Myra (who, let's be honest, looks better than Laura anyway) completely and still chased Laura. He even went as far as to restructure his DNA to be with her! The second point is that Laura, was so blinded by Steve's outward appearance and dorky nature, to even see that underneath was a guy willing to do anything in the world for her. A guy who would stand by her no matter what. Only when he was the cool, and mature man Stefan who was no longer as interested in her as Steve was, was Laura willing to fall in love with him.

This situation is not uncommon, there are Myras Urkels and Laura's out there right now reading this, my only advice to you is to step back and view the whole picture. There are few things better than a person who truly makes you better and makes you want to be more. And that is not something that you should ever pass up on.

Castration Catastrophy

Jesse Jackson wants to cut off Barack Obama's nuts.

And I think with that we have signaled that the reign of the traditional black leaders is officially over. I don't want to see another person apologizing to Jesse Jackson, or asking Reverend Al Sharpton for forgiveness. These leaders have proved inept and are no longer needed. They have lost touch with their base as what naturally happens with progression. Neither represents the young black culture at all. And Rev. Jackson has further proven that he has lost his rabid ass mind, by stating he wants to "cut [Obama's] nuts off"

What are people thinking?!

This week's update is kind of sad in a way...

Police in Sacramento have been nabbing child prostitues for nearly two years using www.craigslist.com to catch teens offering up sex. Most of the girls caught have been released to group homes or foster homes.

One fourteen year old girl who was interviewed said she had started selling herself at eleven years of age. She claimed that she "was lonely" and "wanted to feel loved".

What is wrong with these young women...There is little to no self-respect involved in prostitution, especially the ones who just "want to feel loved". Prostitution is a harsh reality, anyone who would willingly choose to be a prostitute is out of their mind.

Eating a buffet with Buffett

Last Friday the most expensive charity eBay auction closed at $2.1 million dollars. The gift??? Lunch with financial genius, and currently the world's richest man, Warren Buffett. The winning bidder was an investment fund based in Hong Kong, the Pureheart China Growth Investment Fund. The sole winner was Zhao Danyang, who will dine with Mr. Buffett in New York City, at each of the other's earliest convenience. Last year's winners had their dinner with Mr. Buffett, just last Wednesday, so it might be awhile. For those of you who do not understand who Mr. Buffett is or why he is so influential, he is the richest man in the world, and is currently chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. an invenstment group that owns sixty subsidiaries including insurance, candy, clothing and jewelry companies, and even has major stock in Coca-Cola, Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. Basically Mr. Buffett is in the business of money making money, and is the best at it. And for a young upstart investment company in the fastest growing market in the world, his insight and guidance is invaluable. Congratulations to Mr. Danyang and his seven lucky guests.Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What are people thinking?!

Ive decided to start a new weekly segment called what are people thinking...

This weeks target...

Rapper Tech N9ne.

Tech N9ne has been a semi-underground rapper for awhile. He has had more success in scoring movies and TV shows than with actually rapping, but nonetheless he is making money honestly. That being said Tech N9ne is releasing a new album called Killer, its a 2 CD set and the only reason I am going to give it a chance is because of his CD cover.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What is this fool thinking with this cover LOL! He looks like a damn idiot and I really wish he wouldn't degrade himself like this. First, he is no Michael Jackson. Second, his album will be no Thriller. Thirdly, this idea sucks LOL. I really don't understand what people think when they do things like this. Hopefully the album doesn't suck too.

Back For The First Time

Alot has happened since I have last posted. But thats okay, that only makes this all the more interesting. Now what are the top three events of the last few months?
  1. Obama wins the Democratic Bid
  2. Tha Carter III drops
  3. The Nas and DJ Green Lantern NIGGER tapes
1. Barack Obama is now going to go head-to-head with John McCain for the 2008 Presidential spot. Personally, either way I am well-off Barack is a good choice because he will bring about change and show the world that America is turning for the better. And becoming a more tolerant, unified, and open-minded nation. John McCain is going to turn around the economy, and by that I mean that he will be in office when it happens lol. The economy is a living breathing system, that has it's ups and downs. Granted "Dubya" could have done alot more, but how much do you expect from him, really?

2. Tha Carter III...I dont think much else needs to be said other than that. I do not care what genre of music you prefer...you have heard the carter III or at least "Lollipop". This is easily, one of the top ten albums, artistically, of the last five years. He moved 423,000 units his first day out!!! Thats three percent less than Kanye West did his first day, and he moved 965,000 units for the whole week. Tha Carter III is going to be looked at, as a landmark album in Lil Wayne's career. I know people are tired of hearing him, and saying he's getting annoying, but even if you dont like his more recent features (his verse on "Girls Around the World" was type wack) Tha Carter III has a whole different feel to it. Let me put it this way, I got Tha Carter III on June 1st, via downloading, and I STILL went out and bought the album even after playing it continuously for nine days before it came out...Let's see Terminate On Sight do that.

3. Nas and the NIGGER tapes. Let me start off by saying that I hate the word nigger. Its demeaning and belittling and I dont like it at all. But with these tapes...Nas made me feel as if Nigger meant more than just another black person. His video for "Be A Nigger Too" was so moving. (link posted later) He also has a song called "Black President" where he samples a speech from Barack Obama and a famous 2pac lyric, "Although it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready for a black president." And he raps about racism and all of it's ugly heads and shapes and sizes. He also has a song called "Hero" ft. Keri Hilson and produced by Polow Da Don where he raps about himself being a hero for the black community "So in God's Son we trust/Cuz they know Imma give them what they want/I guess they looking for a Hero". As funny as it may seem, music speaks to me, but I rarely listen to it, unless it is RnB. These songs are powerful though. They motivate and speak to a whole culture who are indeed looking for a hero, and who better than God's Son?

Thumbs Up or Down?

Im not sure how I feel about this video. I dont think the hype shouldve been there for the video, even though the woman in this video is absolutely gorgeous. =] But...this video leaves alot to be desired....like an explanation.

Basically at what point does Kanye's eccentricity cross the line of amusingly different and plain annoying.

You let me down 'Ye Don.

Juiced

Congress has recently taken an even stronger stance in the steroids. Im sure that interests some of you. But honestly, I could no care less. I understand how people can be concerned with each other, but I honestly feel that those people are making their own mistakes.....let them! If Jose Canseco wants to die an early and shriveled death...why should I care. Why should Congress care?! There are many more pressing matters in the united states than drugs in a sport. I would rather Congress discuss drug usage as a whole than drag in grown men to sit them down and reprimand them for grown decisions. A teenage player taking Human Growth Hormone (HGH) or anabolic steroids, or any performance enhancing drugs is a problem. A problem that Congress needs to deal with. If Andy Pettite decides that he needs to take HGH as a way to cut down on injury time, and is willing to risk his future to do so. Then why not let him? Steroid use in teens can easily be avoided by....guess what....PARENTING. Making your kids aware that drugs in whole are bad, is something that parents are supposed to do. If you fear your son or daughter is addicted to drugs, look for symptoms. Symptoms are there for a reason, to help warn of the onset of a serious problem or to set of alarms of an already serious problem. Talking to your child and simple signs can avoid big problems in the future. Asking Congress to control how the media raises your child is just stupid. Parenting isn't an easy job and it's time people stopped blaming others and started to control their kids.

It's Okay...It's Okay...I know her!!!

01.12.08
It has been brought to my attention that people in America are just stupid. Stupid in the sense that no one learns from each other!!! Don Imus was only nine months ago and here we are again in another racially tense situation.
In case you don't know what I mean...Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman recently said that in order to get an advantage on Tiger Woods, young competitors should "lynch him in a back alley". Tilghman was suspended by the Golf Channel for two weeks because of her on air rant.
Two things shock me about this, the first being that she was comfortable enough to not only say these statements....but she said them ON-AIR!!!! The second most shocking (and where I got the name from this blog) was Tiger's reaction. He issued a statement from his agent Mark Steinberg, "This story is a non-issue. Tiger and Kelly are friends and Tiger has a great deal of respect for Kelly. Regardless of the choice of words used we know unequivocally that there was no ill-intent in her comments. This story is a non-issue in our eyes. Case closed." (quote from http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=3186158)
So if I go on air and call me Mexican friend a racial slur, does that make it okay because we are friends? Let alone a racial slur that involves a reality that happened to an entire race, not only that person. I understand why Tiger Woods is avoiding the subject, because it is only a headache that will not solve the situation, but I do feel that he has the power, wherewithal, and influence, to make a lasting impression on the subject. I'm not saying he should have taken an Al Shartpon-esque stance, but 'Its okay I know her' is a cop out. Yay or Nay?
